Zachary-Tolbert House

  View your itinerary

A rare example of vernacular Greek Revival style architecture in the mountains, the Zachary-Tolbert House is a proud legacy to the pioneer spirit that helped build and transform a young nation. For 150 years, through tumultuous and changing times that sometimes split families apart, the Zachary-Tolbert House has remained virtually unaltered: no electricity, no plumbing, no central heat, no paint on interior walls and furniture made by Mordecai Zachary. Today it stands as one of the most important historical buildings in Western North Carolina.
