The Avery County Historical Museum is housed in the historic Avery County Jail. Its mission Is to collect, preserve, and display the unique history of North Carolina's 100th and last county. Not only does the museum present a unique collection pertaining to the area's history, but also on the grounds is a 200-year-old log smokehouse. The newest addition to the museum complex is the Linville Depot, the last remaining East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Rail Road and Linville Rail Road Depot In existence. Maps and guided tours are available.
